Deputy Commissioners of Police appointments a wise move

THERE are two newly appointed Deputy Commissioners of Police namely, Mr. Seelall Persaud and Mr. Leroy Brumell, men who have been in the news lately. Though not with much fanfare were their appointments, due to the ignominious discharge of their former boss Mr. Greene, nonetheless these two positions remain substantive.
I read with much amusement two prominent charlatans scoffing at the appointments as nothing but a charade, a ploy by the present administration to appease. However, those of us who are normal, rational beings know that with such a sensitive position/s a great deal of caution must be administered. Appointments of this nature carry with them an importance that far outweighs the name; the security of an entire nation is at stake here. So I am for the most part satisfied that this was a wise move by the government. I must say that I am also quite satisfied with the work done so far by these two gentlemen and wish them the best of health as they work towards tighter security and better civil judgements for our country.
With these commendations I will also issue a caution and it stems from that mandatory call by the opposition to appoint Mr. Brumell as Commissioner. That call was not made with the nation’s well-being in mind, for I must remind my readers that it was that very same political party’s leader who made a “kith and kin” proposal to the armed forces to refrain from arresting “his boys.” Further to it that PNC leader said in no uncertain terms that he would make Guyana ungovernable which is interpreted as saying Guyana should be overrun by criminals. That party still keeps that plan a secret and resorts to it in varying, subtle ways when the opportunity is right.

So the point I am making is with the same voice the opposition is demanding that Mr. Brumell be appointed Commissioner in the same tone they will cut him down once he takes the crime-fighting bull by the horns.
I was present in Georgetown at a few lockdowns when the top cop faced the criminals square on. I say this is not a welcome move where the opposition PNC/APNU is concerned; they would see this as a method of “fight down” or as they usually say attacking “the nation’s youths.” They would very early question your “allegiance”, whether you are for or against them. They will even come out swinging on the human rights front making those wild, unsubstantiated claims of human rights abuse.
So Mr. Brumell, watch out, you will soon feel the heat from those who are making these lofty political statements now. As you stand firmly in the path of doing your job, you will not be loved by that group of persons.
