A POLICEMAN, Kevin George was air-dashed, from Monkey Mountain in the interior to the city on Wednesday, with injuries suffered after making an arrest. Investigations are continuing, in ‘E & F’ Police Division, into the circumstances which led to the injured man being beaten and shot with a bow and arrow about 12:00hrs on May 23.
Information reported, so far, said Constable Bailey and Constable George, both of Monkey Mountain Police Station, went to Siparuta area and arrested a male Brazilian who had an unlicensed shotgun and a quantity of suspected cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession.
While he was being transported, the suspect began to rock the boat midstream in the Echilibar River, causing it to capsize and throw the occupants overboard but they swam ashore.
However, four male Amerindians attacked the police ranks and, while Bailey escaped, George was shot and beaten.
On being flown to the city for medical attention, he was admitted to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) but, later, transferred to a private hospital.
Meantime, a composite team has been dispatched to continue investigating.
