NATIONAL Smallbore (handgun) captain Ryan McKinnon won the senior class while Dr Johan DaSilva and David Dharry carted off the ‘B’ and ‘C’ divisions respectively in the Modern Optical Services Inter-Service shooting championship held last Sunday at the Timehri ranges. McKinnon representing the Guyana NRA Smallbore section bounced back from a third place finish in the first stage to claim the top spot with 299.13 points to beat into second previous winner Khemraj Haripersaud of Presidential Guard who ended on 264.75 points while Ian Rogers of GNRA placed third with 232.20.
Haripersaud had won the first stage but McKinnon recovered to win the second and third stages.
Dr DaSilva also of GNRA came out winner in the ‘B’ Class with 248.23 points beating into second position Mohamed Qualander of Queensway Security on 217.04 points while W. James of Bank of Guyana Security copped third with 189.24 points.
Dharry also of the GNRA secured 208.37 points to win the ‘C’ Class ahead of J. Grant of Guyana Police Force on 164.12 and D. McPherson on 137.11.
Thirty-five shooters took part in the third annual tournament, sponsored by Modern Optical of Middle Street, whose managing director Dr Jose DaSilva said the tournament was a success and he is looking forward to the 2013 event.
Dr DaSilva outlined his admiration for the sport of practical shooting with specific reference to the high level that competitors are required to display while at the range.
T Small-bore captain Ryan McKinnon in closing remarks noted that the match maintained the association’s high safety standard and thanked all those involved for their participation. He also thanked Modern Optical for their continued sponsorship and support for GNRA’s shooting programme.
