A RICE farmer in his late 50s drank a poisonous substance late Monday afternoon.
Reports said Anand Roop Indal, of Somerset and Berks, went aback of Dartmouth Village to check on his rice field when he consumed the poison. It is reported that he ate his lunch in the watchhouse, situated near his cultivation, before taking the suicidal dose.
Family members, who became worried after he did not return home that afternoon, launched a search and found him struggling for life in the watchhouse.
He was still conscious and told his relatives what he did. They rushed him to Suddie Hospital, also on the Essequibo Coast but he was transferred to a city medical institution.
Two of the man’s sons pre-deceased him, also by ingesting poison.
