THE Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, in collaboration with the Guyana Burn & Healthcare Charitable Foundation Inc. (GB&HCFI) has presented certificates of participation to nine Midwives attached to the corporation’s Maternity Unit. These midwives completed a three-day training in a Neo-natal Resuscitation Programme – in accordance with the guidelines of the Canadian Paediatric Society and Obstetrics Emergency Drill: Shoulder Dystocia. This training was facilitated by Ms. Vernie Ally, RN, BScN, SCM, Certified NPR Instructor of the GB&HCFI, and the participants were assessed in both a written and practical exam wherein they achieved 100% passes, with the highest score of 98%.
This training would better enable the midwives to efficiently care for all neo-natal admissions which are warded in the newly refurbished Neonatal Unit of the GPHC, as the hospital strives to further build the capacity of all its medical and nursing staff.
Management is very proud of the midwives and the dedication they continue to exhibit towards the provision of quality healthcare, and wishes to express profound gratitude to the Guyana Burn & Healthcare Charitable Foundation Inc. for their continued partnership with the hospital, through their invaluable contributions, both tangible and educational, towards nursing education and the hospital in general.
