Kaneville murder case begins with smaller trial
THE Kaneville murder case, in which Dwight Da Silva, is on trial at the Demerara Assizes, began with a voir dire (trial within a trial) yesterday, to determine the admissibility of an alleged caution statement. Da Silva is indicted for the unlawful killing of Barbot Paul on August 6, 2006.
After the jury was sworn, defence counsel George Thomas challenged the attestation, arguing that it was not obtained in accordance with the Judges’ Rules.
As a consequence, Justice Roxanne George started the smaller trial in the absence of the jurors.
