Vacationing Guyanese undergoes emergency surgery after robbery

A NEW York, United States (U.S.) resident Guyanese, on vacation in Guyana, underwent emergency surgery at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) last Wednesday, after being wounded in a robbery at Bloomfield, Corentyne, Berbice. Jafar Mohamed, 47, who was, initially, rushed to New Amsterdam Hospital, shortly after 02:00hrs on Wednesday, had to be transferred to the GPH for the operation.
He suffered a gunshot to his left thigh and chop wounds to his right hand and his condition was described as critical.
Mohamed was one of three persons robbed and injured by three bandits, at Lot 4 ‘B’ Bloomfield after the Wednesday morning attack.
They were about to enter the house when the robbers, armed with a gun and cutlass, proceeded to rob them.
Mohamed offered some resistance and was shot and chopped.
The other victims were Narvindra Seepaul, 24, a businessman who was relieved of $50,000 and a cellular phone and Jainarine Singh, 48, a cane harvester, from whom the assailants took $40,000 and a cellular phone
Police are investigating.
