CRIME Chief Seelall Persaud said, Thursday, that a few people were in police custody, as investigations continue into the murder of taxi driver, Rajendra Puran called Rajesh. But they may have to be released as the 72 hours period allowed for holding them without charge had expired since their May 13 detention.
The victim, of Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was found in a drain at Enmore, East Coast Demerara on May 3.
His battered and mutilated body was discovered early that morning by a resident in the Enmore community.
Police said they will not let up in their probe and are hoping for a breakthrough in the case.
Puran, of Lot 1296 Section ‘C’, Block ‘Y’, Diamond, left his home for work on the evening of May 2 and was hired sometime after but, up to press time, his white ‘Toyota Raum’ vehicle, HB 9875, was still missing and is believed to have been stolen in a robbery/hijacking.
An autopsy on his corpse revealed that Puran died of manual strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.
