Man jailed, again, for assaulting reputed wife

A MAN who recently spent six months in prison for assaulting his reputed wife faced another charge for assault on her yesterday. Mark Singh (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one month imprisonment.
He confessed that, on May 11, he unlawfully assaulted Sajatta Persaud.
Police Corporal Simone Payne, prosecuting, informed the court that the defendant and virtual complainant are still reputed husband and wife.
The prosecutor said, that day, the prisoner went home under the influence of alcohol and got involved in an argument with the woman over food.
Persaud told Singh she was cooking and he would have to wait. However, when she was finished, he ate all that she had cooked and, upon her asking him why did not leave any; he became annoyed, pushed and then slapped her.
The woman lamented that Singh is in the habit of abusing her whenever he drinks alcohol.
Singh admitted that he had been previously imprisoned for a similar offence.
The magistrate observed that incarceration is not helping him to learn his lesson so, after he serves the one month sentence, he will be made to seek counselling.
