Son fined for abusing father

ZAMEER Bacchus, 34, of Reliance Settlement, was fined $10,000 with the alternative of three days imprisonment, on Wednesday, after he pleaded guilty to using abusive language to his father. Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting at Reliance Court, Canje, Berbice, said the defendant, who lives with his elderly parent, is in the habit of hurling verbal abuse at the latter whenever he consumes alcohol.
Last March 16, shortly after 12:30 hrs, the defendant went home and, after his father rebuked him about his excessive drinking, he used a series of expletives, much to the disgust of his pensioner father, who, immediately, reported the incident to the Reliance Police Station.
