As Ogle three-man murder trial voir dire ends

Two of three accused plead  guilty to manslaughter
JUSTICE Roxanne George yesterday completed a voir dire that showed two of the three accused voluntarily made caution statements that implicated them in the crime of murder.
But before the Judge could relate this fact to the jury, two  of the  three  accused, through their  lawyers, Mr. Compton Richardson representing Annandram Dhar Amraj, called Alvin ‘Duck Beak’ Allan, and Mr. Peter Hugh, appearing  for Naresh Boodhoo called ‘Allu’ and ‘Taipaul’, changed their pleas from one of not guilty to murder but guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. Their offers were accepted by the prosecution and the Court.
The men had been accused of the murder of a 40-year-old  woman taxi-driver on February 11, 2006, at Ogle, East Coast, Demerara.
The defence lawyers requested that  probation reports should precede sentencing and this facility was granted by the  court.
As a consequence,  the date for the probation reports and  the passing  of sentence was  fixed for May 24,   at 13:30 hrs. The Court  decided to go ahead with the trial of murder as it affects  accused Hemraj Boodwah, called  ‘Tilly’.  The accused Annandram Dhar Amraj and Naresh Boodhoo,   who  have pleaded guilty to manslaughter have been remanded to  prison and will be brought  back to court on May 24,  for a probation report and sentence.
