R&D Engineering, Wartsila continuesupport for Jefford Track &Field Classic

R&D Engineering Services Inc. and Wartsila both maintained their support of the upcoming mega President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic with contributions for the third successive year of the competition, which will be held in Linden at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground. R&D Engineering and Wartsila were among the first companies to support the event when it was first birthed three years ago, and signalled their intention of maintaining the support for the event when they both handed over sponsorship cheques yesterday. “It’s all about growing with a product and we’re happy to be part of the President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic because we can honestly say that we have been there from the beginning and in just three years, we’ve seen what it has become,” Managing Director,
Reginald Roach, of R&D Engineering, indicated. Roach said that his company will continue to be associated with the event and is proud that there has been much success over the period. Roach believes that the event will continue to be part of the development of athletics and athletes as it continues to evolve.
According to him, Linden has always produced quality athletes and the Coordinators have had an outstanding idea when they thought of
giving that community a signature athletics competition to call their own. He believes it is a timely gesture for the Mining Town.Meanwhile, another company that has been partners with the event from the beginning, Wartsila, expressed similar sentiments, stating that it believes that the competition is going in the direction track and field ought to have been going a while ago. Safety and Environment Manager at Wartsila, Gary Hall commended the Coordinators on getting to three consecutive years, stating that Wartsila is happy to be associated with the event. Hall is of the view that the event will continue to grow once it stays on this
path. One of the Coordinators of the event, Edison Jefford expressed gratitude to both companies for a leading role in corporate support for the competition. Jefford believes that the expressions of that support continue to give athletes the belief that there is a place for them. “Athletes need encouragement and at least one event that they look forward to on an annual basis and we are trying to provide that in track and field; this event creates an excitement, and anxiety, among athletes that other meets don’t and I know this is because of the impressive prizes that we have continuously dolled out over the three years,” Jefford indicated.
He said those prizes, and by extension the anticipation of winning them amid athletes, would not have been possible without the support of companies such as Digicel Guyana, R&D Engineering, Wartsila, K&B Mining, Johill Commercial, Ansa McAl, Mohammed’s Enterprise, E-Networks and YK Investments among others.
Jefford indicated that corporate support go hand-in-hand with the development of sport, and has expressed joy that some companies are
leading in this regard. The President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic will be officially launched tomorrow at 11.00hrs at Digicel Headquarters, Kingston.
