Deonarine, Fudadin have mixed fortunes for Kingston club

KINGSTON, Jamaica, (CMC) – Stranded West Indies batsmen Narsingh Deonarine and Assad Fudadin made the most of their frustrating wait on United Kingdom visas by turning out for Kingston Cricket Club in the domestic competition here Saturday. The Guyanese duo have been unable to join the Windies touring party currently in England after experiencing a delay in the processing of their visa requests at the UK consulate here. With no word on when the visas will be issued, it means West Indies are playing the three-day weekend tour match against Sussex with just 11 of the 15-man squad available. Marlon Samuels is yet to arrive from India where he has been campaigning in the Indian Premier League while fast bowler Fidel Edwards  is injured. While the first day of the three-day match at Hove was rained out on Saturday, both Deonarine and Fudadin suffered mixed fortunes on the opening day of Kingston’s clash with Lucas in the Senior Cup.
The left-handed Deonarine was bowled by seamer Dwayne Guthrie (4-22) for one while Fudadin, also a left-hander, was lbw to fast bowler Markon Guy (1-14) for five, as Kingston tumbled for 77 in their first innings. Lucas were then dismissed cheaply for 87 with Deonarine snatching four for 17 from 12 overs of off-spin.
Trailing by ten runs, Kingston then fared much better thanks to Deonarine and Fudadin who both finished unbeaten on 42 to carry the side to 95 for one at the close.
