Al set for Superstar Sonu Nigam musical extravaganza

SONU Nigam, one of Bollywood’s most popular, desirable, and handsome celebrities, touched down on Guyanese soil early yesterday morning and was treated to a special welcome at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, East Bank Demerara. Members of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, and other individuals, including members of the media, were on hand to welcome Sonu when he arrived some minutes to two in the morning.
Beating of drums was part of the welcome and young children, dressed in traditional Indian wear, were prepared to present him with beautiful fresh flowers.
Sonu was obviously tired, having started travelling since last Wednesday. He nevertheless spared a few moments to hug his fans and take photos with them. His troupe arrived in the country the previous day.

Today, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Sonu will be giving his Guyanese fans a three-hour non-stop session of rocking and mesmerising Bollywood melodies, comprising his popular hits, as well as gems from yesteryear. The concert promises to be one of the most memorable musical treats ever held in Guyana.
The Sabha is hosting the concert in celebration of the 174th Anniversary of the Arrival of East Indians to Guyana. Gates will open at 17:00hrs and the concert will begin 19:00hrs.
Performing with Sonu for the Concert will be talented singer Gunjan Singh and Television Actress/ Model Manasi Verma. Gunjan has been featured on Sonu’s album titled “Rafi Resurrected”. She also has some releases of her own.
The Sabha’s own dance troupe, the Dharmic NrityaSangh will also perform.
Described as the “King of Playback”, the “Golden Voice of India” and “Lord of the Chords”, the sensational Sonu has been singing since the age of three. He is equally known for his rendition of the popular songs of the legendary Mohammed Rafi as he is for his own Bollywood Hits, his role as television host for the musical talent show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, judge on X-Factor and his non-filmi albums.
He has sung in approximately 54 different voices and has sung with international artists such as Britney Spears and Jermaine Jackson. He has won numerous awards for his songs including those in popular films Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Om Shanti Om, Saathiya and Main Hoon Na.

He has been the voice of many Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Amir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Govinda.
The Sabha is giving special focus to stage, sound, lights, big screens and seating so that patrons can have optimum enjoyment.
There will be a number of food stalls featuring the various Indian delicacies such as sadarotis and chokhas, seven curry, authentic Indian cuisine and Indian sweets. As usual, there will be a strict no alcohol policy.
All proceeds of this event will be dedicated towards the construction of a Shelter which will house children who are victims of abuse. The building will be based in Berbice, where the Sabha has already secured land.
The Sabha has expressed gratitude to the Government of Guyana for its support and to acknowledge the generous contributions of its sponsors.
Ticket prices to see this iconic performer in concert are $2,000 for general seating and $5,000 for VIP Reserved numbered seating.
