White stars as Deccan win at last

DECCAN Chargers claimed their maiden win in this season’s Indian Premier League after a 18-run victory over Pune Warriors. Chargers were indebted to Cameron White who made 78 in his team’s 177 for four before Rusty Theron and Ashish Reddy took two wickets apiece as the hosts reached 159 for seven in their 20 overs.
Chargers won the toss and chose to bat with Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dawan opening. The latter was out for 16 with the score on 39 which brought White to the crease and the Australian set about the Warriors’ bowlers.
Patel (24) and Kumar Sangakkara (12) both fell but White reached 78 off 46 deliveries before he was caught by Alfonso Thomas off the bowling of Marlon Samuels.
His innings of five sixes and six boundaries helped propel him and Jean-Paul Duminy to a stand of 75.
Duminy and Ishank Jaggi were unbeaten on 26 and 10 respectively.
Pune lost wickets at regular intervals with Robin Uthappa top-scoring on 29, although Steven Smith had looked dangerous before his removal by Theron having hit 26 off 13 deliveries, including three sixes. (PA Sport)
