ROYSTON Robario, 24, of Lethem, Rupununi, has been charged with unlawfully assaulting his wife Renatta Robario. He pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, accused of committing the offence on April 19.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the defendant slapped and choked the woman after he became intoxicated while they were at a disco.
According to the prosecutor, the couple were at the disco in the Lethem area and the husband had consumed too much alcohol.
The defendant was granted $35,000 bail until he makes his next appearance at the Lethem Court on June 5.
