Out of control remanded prisoner injures self

POLICE at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, in Middle Street, had a difficult task yesterday to control a man who was remanded to prison on charges of unlawful wounding and threatening language. Denzel Kistoo became uncontrollable and hit his head several times on the Court walls and concrete flooring causing injuries to himself.
Despite Police efforts he managed to burst his head.
Kistoo had appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty to the charges, which stated that, on April 18, he unlawfully wounded Curtis Thom and threatened to kill him at East Ruimveldt Police Station.
Police Sergeant Denise Booker, prosecuting, informed the Court that the defendant and virtual complainant have an ongoing feud and the defendant went to the virtual complainant’s home, cuffed him in the face and then chased him with a pair of scissors.
The Prosecutor said Thom ran into his neighbour’s house, picked up a knife but went away and made a report.
The Prosecutor said, when the defendant arrived at the station, he got on his knees, kissed the floor and swore to murder Thom. On being arrested, he began hitting his head and was injured.
The magistrate upheld the police objection to bail for Kistoo and ordered a probation report on him, pending sentence.
While being escorted to the lock-ups, he continued to knock his head and police had to summon a vehicle to take him to hospital after the magistrate signed a warrant for Kistoo to be examined by a psychiatrist.
He is to be back in Court on April 27.
