THIS truism must preface what follows: That those who aspire to leadership, must be of a behaviour that is consistent not only by what they profess to be, but what is indeed correct, reflecting high integrity and morals, that will cause their stature to loom large and monolithic in the pantheon of great national leaders. Without any apology, the late Father of the Nation, the revered Dr. Cheddi Jagan towers above all else, in this great National Hallway, unequalled and unmatched.
Last Tuesday, one of his professed followers, Moses Nagamootoo, revealed his true persona that not only must have brought grave embarrassment to his fellow parliamentary colleagues, causing them to hang their heads in utter shame, but which would have also shocked his followers, whoever they may be, around the nation.
His illustrative analogy, as it relates to answering his grandchild, is as reprehensible as any that has ever been uttered, and is plain and undisguised child abuse, coming from  a national leader, one who projects himself as being the epitome of integrity, and an idealist.
How can an attorney-at-law demonstrate such gross disregard and disrespect, not only for his fellow House members first, and attorneys, but also for all the nation’s children.
He cannot claim amnesia, nor ignorance, to the numerous strategies and hard work effected by the party and government that he abandoned, in the battle against all forms of child abuse of which he now stands guilty.
There can be no excuse on his part for such a horrible display that goes against the very core of protecting these young innocents, that he has so blatantly trampled on, with his jackbooted display.
Given the convenient silence from many of these civic groups that are swift and eager to pounce upon the government at the least opportunity, one would conclude that a similar  response will be forthcoming in the days ahead, condemning this pretender and chameleon, as Nagamootoo really is, for such outrageous conduct in the highest forum of the nation. This is the opportune time for these so-called civic rights defenders – the Benschops, the Kissoons, the McCormacks-to speak out against this terrible infringement. This extends to the Director of the Child Care and Protection Agency, as well.
