Nestor’s letter deserves attention because it highlights her double standards

APNU activist, Ms. Lurlene Nestor’s letter to the editor, titled, ‘A malicious slur on Moses Nagamootoo’ deserves the undivided attention of Guyanese because it highlights a dangerous double standard on her part. Ms. Nestor cast aside the interest of Guyana’s children for the partisan objective of defending Nagamootoo, an AFC leader and parliamentarian who signalled to the nation it is appropriate to use abusive language to children. In what appears to be the launch of Nagamootoo’s rescue mission, she deliberately ignored the fact that the Guyana Chronicle neither fabricated nor manufactured Nagamootoo’s admission about using abusive language to his grandson.
For the benefit of those who might be susceptible to the diversionary tactic of Ms. Nestor, here is what Nagamootoo had to say during the 2012 budget debate in Parliament: “…when I travel from my home my grandson would say, ‘are we there yet; are we there yet’ and I would say shut your so and so mouth”.
This kind of behaviour should never be condoned or made to seem alright. Where are the women’s organisations and human rights champions?
