Chairman announces works in new Charity Housing Scheme
CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud has announced that drains within the new Charity Housing Scheme, on Essequibo Coast, will be desilted shortly.
Addressing residents at a community meeting there, on Wednesday, he told them that an excavator will be sent to clear drains which are currently blocked with weed.
Persaud also assured them that streets will be maintained with sand and loam and potholes will be filled. However, they will be paved as soon as money is available.
He reminded residents that it is the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government that spent large sums to develop the once swampy area into a beautiful housing scheme.
According to him, millions of dollars were spent to build roads and dig drains so people could have built houses.
Persaud said the Government also expended much money on potable water and electricity and residents who live in Charity Housing Scheme should be proud and thankful to the ruling PPP/C.
He also called on residents to help keep drains in front of their house lots clean and free from weed and grass.
Persaud observed that the housing scheme has not yet been handed over to the Charity/Urasara Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), so those who live there do not pay rates and taxes.
