WrestleRama set to create history in Guyana this weekend
THE sport of wrestling will create history in Guyana this weekend when WrestleRama is staged at the National Park today and tomorrow from 19:00hrs.
GT&T and other corporate sponsors have collaborated to promote this live electrifying event by bringing thirteen international professional WWE wrestlers to energise the local entertainment atmosphere.
Guyanese patrons will fully support this family fun activity, especially since female wrestlers will also be on show.
At a press conference held at the Princess Hotel Poolside East Bank Demerara yesterday morning, all the visiting wrestlers were present, besides members of the media and sponsors of the event. The Government of Guyana was represented by the Honourable Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony M.P.; Chief Executive Officer of GT&T, Mr. Yog Mahadeo; and Mrs. Lisa Doucan and Mr. Quamie Mentore of the organizing committee of WrestleRama.

In opening remarks, Mr. Yog Mahadeo welcomed all the visiting wrestlers and members of their management committee to Guyana, as he highlighted how their visit has created local history.
He indicated that wrestling would now bring a new flavour to sport in Guyana, and declared he was excited to see the creation of history in this sport unfold in Guyana.
He noted that he has ardently followed wrestling over the years, and offered to showcase some new tricks shown to him by his father a long time ago, even as he sat beside the fearsome Bill Goldberg.
Mahadeo declared that wrestling has a large following in Guyana, and those followers will have an opportunity to see some of their favourite wrestlers live in action at the National Park over the two days.
He thanked Lisa and Quamie for having GT&T onboard, and wished them success in promoting family-oriented activities for the Guyanese public.
The Princess Hotel Manager welcomed the WrestleRama team to Guyana in his short address, and expressed how excited and grateful he felt to be part of the historic staging of WrestleRama in Guyana. He noted that the Princess was part of history in hosting boxing and
other sporting events, and was today associating with wrestling.
Culture, Youth & Sport Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony M.P., also welcomed the WrestleRama team to Guyana and, on behalf of the government, expressed his pleasure to be associated with the history-making event.
He also extended special thanks to Lisa and Quamie for having the vision to pull off such a promotion and to create such a family-filled activity as they had done in the past when they had brought the circus and Dora to Guyana.
Thanking all the sponsors for supporting this event, the Minister opined that this historic event would see an injection of new inspiration to sport in Guyana. He noted that professional wrestling has a large TV fan base in Guyana, and there will be lots of new fans after this event.
The wrestlers will have the opportunity to see some of the tourist sites in Guyana during their visit here, and will be making visits to orphanages and the children’s ward of the Georgetown Hospital.
Superstar Bill Goldberg, in his address to the gathering, thanked the organizers for working with them to have this event possible, as he highlighted how happy he and the WrestleRama team were to be in Guyana.
He noted how nice and rich Guyana was, and said he would be looking forward to having an exciting and enjoyable time here.

Prelude to the punishment
During the press conference, the usual wrestling fury was ignited, as Mike Knox and Luke Gallows, who have a long score to be settled, broke into a fight and commenced the WrestleRama entertainment for Guyanese. The two superbly conditioned combatants went at each other with a gusto rarely seen in Guyana, just like on television, and had to be parted by their colleagues and separated from the heat of the game as the media and others witnessed the events.
In closing his address to the gathering, superstar Bill Goldberg declared WrestleRama Guyana open. “Let’s get it on!” he roared.
