Hire car driver handed black bag with human foetus

POLICE were late yesterday on the hunt for a woman in her mid-twenties who, it is alleged, handed a human foetus in a black plastic bag to a hire car driver at the Berbice Park in downtown Georgetown, pretending that it was ‘fast food’ waste, and asked him to dispose of it for her. But minutes later, pandemonium broke out at the car park, when, after observing the bag to be weighty, the man decided to peer inside to determine what it was.
The man, who gave his name only as ‘John’, claimed he was shocked out of his wits when he found the contents of the bag to be a human foetus, perhaps about five months old.
The man who operates a hire car between Georgetown and Berbice, still shocked when he spoke with this newspaper, recalled that around 17:30hrs a woman, appearing to be about 25, approached him claiming that she was feeling unwell and wanted to get home. He said he helped her get a taxi, but on boarding it, she handed him a black plastic bag which she said contained fast food waste and asked him to throw away.
John said he took the bag and headed towards a dump under a power pole at the Berbice car park. But he became curious as the bag seemed too heavy to be food waste.
He was shocked at what he saw in the bag and raised an alarm. But the taxi with the woman had already driven away.
The beleaguered man said he had no alternative but to take the bag containing the dead foetus to the police outpost, where he gave a written statement.
This newspaper understands that the police eventually caught up with the driver of the taxi which took the woman away from the park.
Investigations are ongoing.
