Defendant placed on $30,000 bail for assault, abusive language

TWENTY-five-year-old Candacia Benjamin of South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared on Monday before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court to answer to charges of assault and use of abusive language, wherein it was alleged that on March 1, at Sophia, she assaulted Jerome Johnson, causing him actual bodily harm; and, also on the same day, she made use of abusive language to Monica Adams. Benjamin pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Asked if she was ever charged with an offence of this nature, the defendant told the court that she had made an appearance in court before for assaulting her “child father”; however, she was not convicted, since the case was dismissed.
Police Sergeant Bernard Brown, prosecuting, did not object to the defendant being granted bail.
Benjamin was put on $30,000 bail and was ordered to appear in court on March 19.
