Burning of Holika takes place today across Guyana

– ahead of tomorrow’s celebration of Phagwah
HOLIKA Dahan or the burning of Holika will take place today throughout the country.  The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will hold a Satsangh at the Shri Krishna Mandir, C/ville at 7:00 p.m. Devotees will participate in a hawan ceremony with the chanting of vedic mantras and the singing of Holi songs and chowtaal.
The chowtaal Gole will thereafter lead the procession to the Camptown ground, Campbellville for the burning of Holika at 8:15 p.m.

President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud, in explaining this significant component of the Holi festival said, it will be conducted in the true spirit of a Navaneshti Yaag.  This ceremony dates back to the vedic era when the Kissans or farmers after harvesting their crops offered grains to Agni devata.
This spiritual exercise existed long before Prahalad’s intervention.   At the Camptown ground, appropriate puja will be conducted, the Holika kindled and members of the chowtaal goles will do Parikrama or circumambulation as the fire ascends.  It is an eventful exercise with profound spiritual overtones.

At the Rama Krishna Mandir, Barr Street, Kitty, there will be the annual Satsangh at 8:00 a.m. on Phagwah morning.  The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has planned grand celebrations on the Sabha’s lawns at the Sanskritik Kendra, 392-393 Ganges Street, Prashad Nagar at 3:00 p.m.  Pandit Persaud declared that he, personally, and the Sabha, for more than 25 years, has carried out a campaign for those who join in the celebration to do so in a healthy and dignified way.  We expect those participating to dress appropriately.

Celebrate with abeer, abrack, powder and perfume. No impure substances should be thrown on anyone.
Also, no alcoholic beverages are allowed at any of the activities.
