ANOTHER witness, Police Superintendent Greaves took the stand when the preliminary inquiry (PI) in the Neesa Gopaul murder case resumed on Tuesday. The victim’s mother, Bibi Shareema Gopaul and stepfather, Jarvis Small are charged with unlawfully killing the former Queen’s College (QC) student.
Greaves gave his testimony before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, led by Special Prosecutor Prithima Kissoon.
The proceedings were slated to be continued yesterday, but that court session was postponed because of flooding in the city.
Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos and other attorney-at-law Vic Puran are appearing for the defence.
The girl’s mother and Small are alleged to have committed the crime between September 24 and October 2, 2010, and the dead body was recovered at Madewini, along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
The corpse was stuffed in a suitcase that was retrieved from Madewini Creek near the Emerald Tower Resort, battered almost beyond recognition.
