A WOMAN yesterday appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson to answer charges of throwing a corrosive substance and use of threatening language. Marexa Ann Paul, 24, of Lot 1645 National Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to both charges, particulars of which stated that, on February 23, she made use of threatening language to Shonnette Burke, and on the same day, threw a corrosive substance on Burke with intent to maim, disfigure, or cause grievous bodily harm.
Attorney-at-law, Ms. Omeyana Hamilton represented the defendant and requested reasonable bail. She said the incident occurred because of a triangular affair.
Police Corporal, Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, had no objection to bail, but requested that the defendant and virtual complainant be placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the outcome of the case.
The application was granted and the defendant was placed on $65,000 bail. The matters will be called again on March 15.
