Three charged after police find illegal butcher shop

POLICE have charged three people who were arrested amidst dead animal carcasses on Republic Day. Bibi Mohammed, 48, Nalo Singh, 18, and Leon Singh, 24, all of Mon Repos, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at Sparendaam Court, also at East Coast Demerara, on Monday.
They, individually, pleaded not guilty to charges of larceny after it was alleged that they live together, operate an illegal butcher shop and stole four goats, two sheep and two cows belonging to Bibi Waheeda and Bibi Ali of Annandale and Ramesh Charran and David Sital of Lusignan, respectively, on East Coast Demerara, too.
On the application by defence counsel, Gwendolyn Bristol, the two women were each granted $55,000 bail and the man $95,000, pending their return to court on March 12.
Sergeant Browne appeared for the police and said the trio was apprehended where the animals were being slaughtered in a yard.
Meanwhile, the goats and sheep found are in police custody.
