THE National Commission on Disability (NCD) has indicated that it will be opening its offices to visitors, and the general public at large, during a planned ‘Open Day’ to be held tomorrow at the NCD headquarters, 49 Croal Street, Stabroek from 10:00 hrs until 15:30 hrs. NCD is a semi-governmental organization working towards the promotion and fulfillment of disability rights in Guyana.
During Open Day, NCD will have a photographic exhibition of its work over the years, conduct tours of its premises and have enthusiastic staff on hand to promote lively discussions on disability related matters.
The NCD said it hopes, through the Open Day, to give members of the public and stakeholders the opportunity to learn more about the organization and its work.
Mrs Beverly Pile, Administrative Officer at NCD, said: “NCD is the focal point for disability issues in Guyana, but yet very few persons know about us and the work we do. We warmly invite people interested in disability issues to take the opportunity to come and visit us on the 29th and talk with us about what we do.”
Disability rights have been increasingly on the map in Guyana since the passing of the Persons with Disability Act 2010. This legislation protects in law the basic rights of the 50,000 people who live with a disability in Guyana. NCD is committed to the implementation of this Act and its mission of a society where persons with disabilities live as equal citizens.
