A THIRTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD taxi driver made a tearful appearance before Magistrate Allan Wilson yesterday, charged with unlawful assault and
attempting to commit suicide. Osafa Edghill, of Lot 2994 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to both charges, which stated that, on February 21, at Stall 23 in North Ruimveldt Mall, he unlawfully assaulted Fiona Sheppard to cause her actual bodily harm and attempted to kill himself.
Defence counsel, Adrian Thompson, in his bail application, said the defendant has a domestic problem that is weighing heavily on his mind and heart.
He lawyer said Edghill is willing to remove from the home he shares with the virtual complainant.
Police Sergeant, Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, had no objection to the grant of pre-trial freedom but asked that a condition be imposed and a probation report submitted.
The magistrate ordered Edghill to post $25,000 surety and that he and Sheppard have nothing to say to each other and the defendant seeks counselling at the Probation Department.
The cases will be called, again, on March 7.
