Baring your soul

-to your soul-mate
EVEN if your pockets are empty and your cupboard is bare on Valentine’s Day, you can still give your sweetheart the ultimate Valentine’s experience by writing him/her a love letter. I mean an actual love letter written with a pen on a nice sheet of paper, not an email or a print out, which takes away from the genuineness of the effort.
You may not be Shakespeare, but this endeavour is guaranteed to plaster a smile on the face of your beloved. Just make sure your letter is genuine, and heartfelt.

Here are some instructions to help you in this assignment:

1. Get some decent stationery. Elaborately or decoratively designed sheets of paper are most desirable in this endeavour. Choose regal designs, or designs related to love. Make sure your paper has no cartoon character, as this may give the impression that you are in jest.

2. Set yourself down and get in the mood. Be in solitude when you write this letter. Let your sentiments be inspired by soft music, dim lights, and/or a picture of your beloved, as this will inspire your love letter.

3. Think about why you care for the darling of your heart. Thinking back to fun times you’ve had will help you compose your missive. As need dictates, outline your message on a separate piece of paper before you start writing, so your thoughts are organised.

4. COMPOSE: Your letter should include reasons why your beloved is the love of your life, how that person has changed your life, and why you’re glad to have met that person. Don’t be afraid or hesitant to express your innermost feelings. Love letters typically have a serious tone, but a lighthearted tone might be a better fit if the two of you are a fun-loving couple.

5.  Write your letter in your own words, as those will be more powerful, even if simpler, than a poet’s or songwriter’s words.

6. Close your letter with a romantic line or two written just for your beloved.  Don’t forget to sign the letter with “Love.” Make sure to attach your signature.

7. Put your letter in a fancy envelope. You can find inexpensive and pretty ones at any stationery store. And make sure to send your letter to the love of your life.
