Irrepressible performances at the NCC

…as nursery, primary students dance on day two of their Mash competition
THE National Cultural Centre came alive yesterday as the curtain went up on day two of the National Children Mashramani Dance Competition, with engaging performances by nursery and primary school students from the Georgetown District.
The nursery groups offered performances under three categories: Religious Beliefs, Fantasy and Ring Dance/Games Children Play; the primary schools also performed under the same three categories, as well as under the Interpretive, Legends and Traditions, and Social Commentary categories.
Walking away in first place under the religious beliefs category for nursery group was Green Acres Nursery School; the children wowed the audience with a thrilling performance to the gospel song ‘Giving Thanks’.
South Road Nursery came in second place in that same group, dancing to ‘Jubilation’, and Lodge Nursery grabbed the third position after giving a brilliant performance to ‘Joy and Praise’.
Under the Category Fantasy, Lodge Nursery came in third after presenting to the audience a beautiful dance from the Cinderella movie, ‘A fairy Tale Life’.

Alexander Village Nursery walked away with the second place after wooing the audience with entertaining performances while dancing to ‘Circle of Life’ an extract from The Lion King, and Head Start Nursery was named the winner of that category  dancing to ‘Can’t wait to be King’ from the same movie.
Under the Ring Dance grouping, South Road Nursery copped the first place position with lively performances to ‘Children of Guyana,’ and Gacestock Nursery managed to walk away with second and third in the same category after dancing to ‘Fun in the Sun’ and ‘Future on wheels’.

Under the Primary Schools’ group 5-7, and under the category Fantasy, North Georgetown Primary walked away with the first position after thrilling the crowd and the judges with their exuberant performances to ‘The power of love’.
Stella Maris Primary gained  second place for their very entertaining performance ‘Swing Cat’, and St Agnes Primary took third place, dancing to ‘Fun in the sun’.
The St.Pius Primary being the only school to perform under the category Ring Dance/Games Children Play, 5-7, for the primary school walked away  as the winner, showcasing a brilliant performance with ‘Jamming with pride’.
Sophia Primary walked away with first place position under the Religious Belief group, dancing to ‘Expression of love’; ST. Agnes came in second in that same category, dancing to ‘Praises’ and St.Angela’s gained third place,  dancing to ‘Honour Him’.
Coming out on top and taking first place under the 8-10 groups (Primary School) and under the category Legends and Traditions, Smith’s Memorial copped the first place, dancing to ‘From Africa we Move’.
St.Pius Primary came out in second place performing to ‘Sticks On Fire’, and Winfer Gardens Primary came in third place with ‘God’s Powerful Blessings’.
Interpretive category saw St Agnes Primary taking the first position, performing ‘Mash Vibes’, coming in second was Smith’s Memorial with ‘This Is How We Do It”, and third was  North Georgetown Primary, dancing to  ‘We Mash’.
Under Religions and Belief, Green Acres grabbed first place after captivating the judges with their excellent performance to ‘Glorifying His Majesty’.
Stella Maris Primary took second place dancing to ‘Lost Souls’, followed by yet another eye catching performance from St.Pius Primary dancing to ‘Freedom Comes’, and placing third.
North Georgetown Primary, being the only school to perform in the Social Commentary category, walked away with the winner after performing ‘Helping Hands’.
The Children Mashramani Competition began last Friday with dramatic poetry for nursery, primary and secondary schools.
The first place winners of these competitions from the Georgetown district will compete against the winners in the various regions at the Regional Children Mashramani Competition.
