In Sophia…

SIBLING RIVALRY TURNS DEADLY
–  as brother kills other after argument over clothing
NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Sherwin Kennedy was killed by his 17-year-old brother Leroy Kennedy yesterday, following a heated argument over some clothing.
When Guyana Chronicle staffers arrived at the Lot 691 ‘A’ Filed, Sophia, Greater Georgetown scene, grandmother of the brothers, Esther Kennedy declared it was the first time a verbal exchange between the siblings developed to such a stage.
According to her, at the time of the incident, she was at the back of the house washing some eschallot and heard the two arguing.
Their mother was talking with her and she alerted the former to the problem, so the latter went to enquire into it.
Kennedy said, she heard the mother questioning the siblings about the issue and the younger one, Leroy threatened he would kill the brother. However, after speaking with both and calming the situation, the woman returned to her mother’s place in the same yard.
The woman said, after imploring their mother to speak to his brother, she saw Leroy with a kitchen knife
pointing it at the victim. But she did not expect him to pelt the knife at his brother.
She said, after he pelted it, the blade struck Sherwin in the region of his heart and she saw her grandson stagger and fall, bleeding. He got up and walked a little and then fall on the bridge.
Kennedy said the family immediately rushed the injured teen to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) from where her daughter called to say the wounded lad passed away upon arrival.
Police arrested the brother after the noon killing and took him to Turkeyen Station, also in the Sophia area.
With only two months into the New Year, there have been at least eight reported murders, more than for the same period in previous years.
