… three others still missing in rescue mission
A boat travelling from the Meadow Bank wharf on the East Coast Demerara , with four fishermen and an out-board engine which they were taking to rescue colleagues robbed by pirates off the Pomeroon River mouth on Friday, reportedly sank before they were able to reach the crew they set out to help. Reports said the boat carrying the fishermen and engine, experienced a period of turbulence and sank in rough seas in the Atlantic Ocean, somewhere aback of Perth/Dartmouth, Essequibo, late Saturday afternoon.
However, one of the men, Ganeshwar Reddy, was found on Sunday afternoon, by five fishermen catching shrimp. When found, the burly man, said to be about 250 pounds, was drifting just off the Jibb/Paradise foreshore, also on the Essequibo.
On spotting the figure, the fishermen hastened to render assistance, and found the man to be alive, but badly bruised. He was rushed to the Charity Hospital, where he was admitted.
Ever since the news broke, residents who are now vigilant and on high alert, have been flocking the sea coast, with the hope of finding the other three men robbed by pirates.
The other three fishermen, who went down on the way to rescuing the crew robbed by pirates on Friday are Shafeek Khan, Rackoo and Kumar.
So far they have not been located.
Searches are being conducted by the Joint Services, assisted by public spirited persons.
