BERBICE and Guyana’s female cricket champions, the Rose Hall Town Metro Team, have reasons to smile throughout this year, as their sponsors Metro Office and Computer Supplies renewed their sponsorship of the team. On Friday January 27, the company Berbice Branch Manager Ava Lindie said her company was pleased to be associated with the club, especially the females and urged them to remain focused, before presenting them with a cheque worth $160 000.
Secretary/CEO of RHTYSC Hilbert Foster stated that Metro has been sponsoring the team since its formation in 2007 and during that period of time the team won both the Berbice and national cricket championship.
The team has also produced 16 Berbice cricketers at all levels, seven national players and three for the West Indies.
Among the players who have played for the team are: Erva Giddings, Shemaine Campbelle, Tremayne Smartt, Melanie Henry, Phaffiana Millington, Nikita Toney, Trishanie Cort, Tessa Park, Nermala Sewdat and Jackie Singh, while the team was involved in 12 community programmes/projects under its personal development campaign last year.
The Secretary/CEO also announced that Campbelle, who played for the West Indies, would lead the team in 2012 with Erva Giddings another West Indies player as her deputy, Janet Ramsammy the manager and Winston Smith the coach.
Retired first class umpire Dhieranidranauth Somwaru and Guyana Teachers Union president Colin Bynoe are the executives directly in charge of the Females in the RHTYSC.
