GPHC issues statement on death of Rohini Balkaran

IN A follow-up statement on the death of Rohini Balkaran, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation stated that the patient was seen at the Accident and Emergency Unit on 16 January, and her condition was recognized as an acute medical condition. Treatment was initiated in the A&E Department, and she was subsequently admitted to the High Dependency Unit, where her response to treatment was sub-optimal.
The patient was incubated and subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, but unfortunately she succumbed.
A post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday, 18 January, 2012, but the final report is yet to be submitted.
