MEMBERS of the National Commission on the Rights of the Child (NCRC) introduced themselves to President Donald Ramotar yesterday during a courtesy call at the Office of the President.
They were accompanied by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative in Guyana, Suleiman Braimoh.
The NCRC was established to promote the Convention on the Rights of the Child and monitor services to children, as set out in the National Plan of Action and the World Summit Goals for Children.
It joins the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), the Indigenous People’s Commission (IPC), and the Human Rights Commission that constitute the constitutional rights commissions in Guyana.
In 2009, two commissioners of the NCRC and 15 from the Women and Gender Equality Commission were sworn in by former President Bharrat Jagdeo, who noted the critical role rights commissions play in the improvement of relations in Guyana.
