AS a resident of Georgetown, I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction at the current state of the city and the modus operandi of the Mayor and City Council. I feel very disgusted at the fact that our capital city which was once called the ‘Garden City’ is the complete opposite; an unsightly, stinking garbage dump. The garbage situation in Georgetown is so overwhelming and disgusting, I wonder how the Mayor, Mr. Hamilton Green can sleep at nights or have the audacity to proudly rant and rave about the City Council’s work, while blaming the Government for his mismanagement.
After all, we should not be surprised because this was the manner in which the PNC governed Guyana during those 28 dark years of ruin. By now all should know that their principles of management were and still are, to use and abuse state resources, then find some donkey to pin the tail on, or just blame the Government.
I am totally fed-up with the inaction and lack of ability by the City Council to deal with the garbage situation. I am running out of options, and call on the Government to make some kind of intervention so as to relieve us, the residents, from this very dangerous situation that can escalate into catastrophic consequences.
Recently, there was an article in the newspaper calling for an IMC to be set up. Well if that’s the way forward then we, the residents of Georgetown, should re-enforce the call on the Government to act now and replace these incompetent and power-stricken individuals. I also call on the Government to immediately launch an investigation into the financial affairs of the City Council and also to take the appropriate and necessary action(s) against those found to be involved in any malpractice.
SOS out for Georgetown
