BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Half-centuries from Raymon Reifer, as well as openers Omar Phillips and Rashidi Boucher were the main highlights of the first Barbados trial match in preparation for the regional first-class season, starting next month. Reifer hit an unbeaten 85, Phillips made 71 and Boucher scored 50, as Kenroy Williams’ side reached 282 for eight in their second innings in a match against Kraigg Brathwaite’s side which ended in a draw on Tuesday at Foursquare Oval in the south-eastern parish of St. Philip.
No player distinguished himself in the first innings of the two teams, when Williams’ side were dismissed for 191 and Brathwaite’s team were bowled out for 122.
Left-hander Reifer struck just one boundary, a six from 190 balls in close to 4½ hours of batting on a grassy outfield.
He added 49 with wicketkeeper-batsman Renaldo Arthur for the fifth wicket, but lacked a stable partner the rest of the way.
Fellow left-hander Phillips, who played two Tests for West Indies two years ago and has been the regular captain of the Combined Campuses & Colleges in recent season, struck three fours and two sixes from 156 balls in close to 3½ hours.
His innings was interrupted however, when he was forced to retire hurt on 62 after being struck on the right foot by a straight drive from Kofie Hurdle in the over before lunch. He returned after tea, but looked to be hampered by the injury and was run-out.
Boucher failed to push on after he reached the half-century mark and was bowled by national leg-spinner Nikolai Charles, following an opening stand of 103 with Phillips. He faced 82 balls and hit four boundaries.
Charles was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 78 runs off 31 overs, while left-arm spinner Derick Bishop, a former Barbados Under-19 captain, took two for 33 off 21 overs.
