BUILDING contractor John Peters (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, on Thursday, charged with fraudulent conversion. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said that, last December 16, being solely entrusted by Marlene Mc Andrew with $500,000 to purchase materials, he fraudulently converted $195,920 to his own use and benefit.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the defendant was contracted by the virtual complainant to repair her house and gave him the $500,000 to buy materials.
But she later discovered the fraud and reported it.
Peters was put on $100,000 bail until January 17.
