I refer to the article captioned: “Hey Khurshid, you didn’t acknowledge me” in the Kaieteur News dated December 28, 2011, written by a well known columnist, who for some reason or the other feels that the world revolves around him and as such the introduction of any new initiative, which he may have previously suggested at some point or the other should not be introduced unless due recognition is attributed to him.
Mr. Editor, while I am not in the habit of reading the writings of certain columnists, but a colleague of mine referred me to the article captioned: “Hey Khurshid, you didn’t acknowledge me” since he found it quite appalling that the writer would seek credit for the introduction of the sale of Motor Vehicle Licence (MVL) on the anniversary date of the car.  Like my colleague, it is mind-baffling why the writer would take time off to seek credit for the work of the GRA instead of using his time and the space allotted to him in the newspaper to address issues of national interest. Such behaviour on the part of the columnist can lead one to conclude that the writer is not concerned about change and the good of the public, but is obsessed with self-gratification and elevation of self, cost it what it will.
It has often been said: “Empty barrels make a lot of noise” and the noise being made by the columnist because the Commissioner-General did not seek to attribute the introduction of the new system for the renewal of MVL to him is just another clamour by the writer for attention and public recognition. In this regard, I would humbly suggest that the Commissioner General pays the columnist no mind, since ignoring him would be rendering to him his due.
I take this opportunity to commend the Commissioner-General for the fantastic job he is doing in collecting the revenue of the state. I say to you Commissioner-General “do not be daunted by small-minded people who will spare no effort in elevating themselves.”
I wish you all the best in 2012 and I am sure that with the usual performance of the GRA in exceeding its revenue target, next year’s goal for the GRA will be even larger. In this regard, I remain focused and continue to silence your critics.
