MINISTER within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development Mr. Norman Whittaker, on Wednesday, disclosed that one of the main focus areas for the  ministry in 2012 will be the re-evaluation of properties to facilitate Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and Municipalities’ rates and taxes assessment.
Minister Whittaker made this disclosure at a news conference at the ministry, during which he provided  highlights of the current year.
Whittaker said the ministry has been harangued by a number of NDCs and municipalities with regards to the need to have a re-evaluation of properties for the purpose of rates assessment.
They have complained that the current rates and taxes collected for many properties are below the current market value for the said properties.
Whittaker said the ministry will address this issue in the coming year and will also facilitate training programmes for those who will assist in this re-evaluation exercise.
