Medicine Chest spreads Xmas cheer to Leprosy patients at Mahaica Hospital

MEDICINE Chest Pharmacy made a financial donation to the International Women’s Aid (IWA) for Mahaica Hospital, offering Christmas cheers to patients of the hospital afflicted with Hansen’s disease (leprosy).
Cary Mc Donald, Manager of Medicine Chest presented a cheque to Treasurer of the International Women’s Aid for Mahaica, Beverley Fergus-Ferrell, in the presence of IWA President Jennifer Prince, at the Pharmacy on Middle Street yesterday.
McDonald said the funds were secured from customers who contributed to donation boxes at the pharmacy and management matched the contribution.
“This is the second time we are bringing Christmas cheers to the patients of Mahaica hospital and the children’s home and we will continue our fund raising drive next year,” he added.
Fergus-Ferrell expressed gratitude to Medicine Chest and the Mc Donald’s family for supporting the work of the IWA.
“We would also like to express thanks to the valued customers who supported this initiative, we are extremely grateful to them,” she added.
IWA President, Jennifer Prince urged members of the public to remember the patients of Mahaica Hospital and to offer support.
She disclosed that members of the IWA prepare meals every Saturday and offer support to the staff of the hospital.
The organization was founded in 1967 by wives of diplomats on duty in Guyana.
