BALKARRAN Persaud (no address given) was sentenced to two months imprisonment yesterday, on conviction for simple larceny. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that, on December 16, he stole a pedal cycle, valued $19,000, property of Carl Lewis.
The prisoner told the court he went to the owner’s home to borrow the bicycle but no one was there, so he took it. But, when he returned, the virtual complainant confronted him.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Lewis was watching television in his house when he heard a noise and, on looking outside, saw the convict riding away on his cycle.
But he chased and caught Persaud.
