GUYANESE-BORN singer and flautist Ruth Osman-Rose will be in concert at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, Kingston, on Boxing Night. The programme, Christmas Jazz with Ruth Osman and Friends, will also feature vocalist Johann Jackman.
Osman-Rose was also at the Playhouse on Boxing Night last year, together with Paul Keens-Douglas, and they performed before a capacity audience.
Osman-Rose is making quite a name for herself in Trinidad and Tobago, where she is based, and she performed at last year’s Jazz Festival in Tobago.
Just a bit reminiscent of Norah Jones, her voice is dark and resonant in the lower register, and when she goes higher there is an endearing vulnerability that grips the listener.
This time around, Osman-Rose promises a clutch of Christmas favourites and some of her own compositions in her own, controlled jazz style.
