WITH reference to the above subject, we wish to bring to your attention and to the relevant authorities that dead fishes are reported to be floating in Kako River and other tributaries of the Upper Mazaruni River. A report of this kind was reported in Chinoweing in Haieka River last month and to date the situation remains the same.
Health personnel were sent because of the complaint to check, but to our dissatisfaction there is no report of their findings to date.
Since the communities started to see the dead fishes, the majority of those fishes are the predator fish ‘Yarrow’ floating in the river.
Therefore, we are appealing to the relevant authorities and those concerned to send an independent team of experts to conduct tests in the affected areas.
We need an immediate response.
