…will allow more efficient customer transactions
THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company will be expending approximately US$9M towards the implementation of a new billing system which will allow customers to conduct their transactions more efficiently. This announcement was made by the Chief Executive Officer Yog Mahadeo who said that strategies are being implemented that will see the entire company being revamped.
“Customers won’t have to wait on a bill to come and pay… they will receive a text message giving them the balance owed,” he said.
Mahadeo said that the vision is to revitalise the entire system to bring to the table a transformation that is suited for the new era.
Apart from this, he said that an addition of some 15 branches for paying bills (sites) will be seen in the New Year. He said during 2011 already there was an addition of 15 branches throughout the country.
Meanwhile, the company has fulfilled yet another promise to customers when prices for international calls were slashed for landline subscribers.
According to him, the price for an international call has been reduced from $22.50 per minute to somewhere around $19 to the United States and Canada.
He said that this promotion fits into GT&T’s Christmas plan to the nation and will be on for the next three months.
“We have also decreased our mobile rates,” he said.
During the launch of GT&T’s BlackBerry phones on November 11, Mahadeo had promised to slash the prices for their services as another treat to customers.
Additionally, he said that with only a few weeks on the market, the company’s BlackBerry phone initiative has been very successful.
“Its less than one month, and we have already over 4,000 subscribers,” he announced.
When questioned about the competitiveness on the market with the other mobile phone company, he said it has not affected business for the GT&T, noting that he is pleased that the organisation is on board. “We are proud that we have broken that (BlackBerry) monopoly”, he said.
He pointed out that, while the company has been expanding silently in some areas, next year will see more projects being undertaken that will take the spotlight.
Turning his attention to the jingle and song competition, he said that he is quite pleased with this initiative that was put forward by his company, noting that he is satisfied with the changes that have been made to bring a new meaning to the song competition.
“We have removed the age barriers and we have also introduced the Bollywood segment,” he said. This paved the way for the phenomenal feedback seen throughout the entire competition.
“We never expected one thousand persons to sing on,” Mahadeo admitted. The finals for the two segments will be held in the last week of this month at the National Cultural Centre.
He said that a grand draw will be held on Christmas Day, which will see a winner of one of the houses that the company is giving away to a lucky customer. The day for the second presentation will be announced later.
