I wish to start by saying that I don’t expect this letter to be carried by the Kaieteur or Stabroek News, since both of these media houses have their own subjective policies when it comes to the opinion of others; yet they are very quick to pontificate on the modus operandi of the Guyana Chronicle and Guyana Times. The election season is behind us and apart from enabling citizens to have a say in who presides over the affairs of this beautiful nation of ours over the next five years, it also gave many of us the opportunity to see the nasty side of others, many of whom we were once proud to call a friend, bother, sister or colleague. And even as this period brought untold suffering for some, the post-election period promises continued suffering for many, particularly the business sector which found itself under attack simply for calling things as they saw it.
Then we have the case where a terrible campaign of hate is being waged against the ‘Hits and Jams’ promoters. I urge members of the public to note that this campaign of hate has its genesis in the refusal by the operators of STVS CH 72 to discontinue its broadcast of a paid PPP/C ad. This request was made by a known media operative who masquerades under the banner of being an ‘independent’, but campaigned extensively for an opposition party. Race and other factors were given as reasons when this media operative sought to justify his request for discontinuance of the airing of this paid advertisement. I am therefore urging members of the public not to allow themselves to be used as pawns by this individual and his like-minded colleagues. I am also confident that being Facebook and Twitter account holders gave many, including myself, the opportunity to see the true nature of these individuals.
