Under-17s to undergo encampment from today

THE national Under-17 team selected to represent Guyana at the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board Under-17 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago will undergo an encampment period from today at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence (CSCE). The team, which was selected after performances in the Guyana Cricket Board-organised Inter-county tournament, will be led by Berbice’s Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai and includes Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the hard-hitting Shimron Hetmyer and multi-talented Shailendra Shameer.
Former GCB vice-president and manager of the national Under-19 team Alvin Johnson will execute the duties of manager of the team, while former national off-spinner Gavin Johnson has been appointed coach.
The six standby players have also been invited to the encampment while all players are asked to assemble at the CSCE for 15:00hrs.
The full squad with standby players reads: Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Ricardo Peters, Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul, Shailendra Shameer, Mark Gonsalves, Arif Chan, Kemoul Savory, Akshaya Persaud, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Steven Sankar, Dexter George, Bernard Bailey and Shairaz Ramcharran.
The stand-bys are: Devon George Shivindra Hemraj, Daniel Lewis, Nial Smith, Michael Shalim and Quincy McPherson.
