At Anna Regina rally…

Ramotar promises new crops to boost agricultural development
PRESIDENTIAL Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Donald Ramotar told thousands of Essequibians, at an Anna Regina rally on the Essequibo Coast last Saturday, that, once he is elected, he will introduce several new crops into the country to boost agricultural development.

Speaking in the car park, he said Guyanese can take advantage of the food shortfall in the world because it has vast resources of fresh water and fertile land.
According to Mr. Ramotar, new crops like nutmeg and soya will be introduced with different and modern farming technologies.
He noted that the world has seven billion people and more mouths to feed and many countries are using the soil to produce biofuel which has caused a shortfall in food.
Ramotar said Guyana has a great opportunity to grow and produce more food and earn more money.
Speaking about hydropower, he said the PPP/C Government has laid the foundation for the country to move forward and is currently constructing a hydroelectricity station.
He said the development of the country could have gone further if there was cheaper electricity or hydroelectricity, because, with that available, it would open up processing across the country and create thousands of jobs for young people.
With the availability of hydropower, electricity bills and prices of communities will come down, too, Ramotar pointed out.
