In keeping with promise…

President Jagdeo meets gold, diamond miners today
PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo will be the special Guest Speaker at the bi-monthly meeting of Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association  (GGDMA) today, at Regency Suites Hotel, Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
GGDMA Executive Director, Mr. Tony Shields said, the meeting, which should have been held last week but was postponed because the Head of State was unavailable then, starts at 15:00 hrs.
Shields said President Jagdeo had promised, earlier this year, to meet with small and medium scale gold and diamond miners in October.
However, today’s agenda comprises largely routine items, including an address by GGDMA President, Mr. Patrick Harding and a report by the Administrative Coordinator, Mr. Colin Sparman.
After President Jagdeo speaks, miners will be allowed to seek clarifications on his remarks and make observations and recommendations.
The issues likely to be raised by miners include environmental regulations for mining, in keeping with the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) , Government’s policy on areas closed to mining and issues involving surface and sub-surface rights in mining areas, particularly in Amerindian titled ones among others.
The GGDMA considers the interaction with President Jagdeo as very important and is urging all miners who can attend to do so and be seated at the venue early.
